THE STROUD ROOM

The Philosophy Department at the University of California, Berkeley has decided to dedicate a room to Barry Stroud in recognition of his contributions to the department from 1961 until his death in 2019. The room, named The Stroud Room, is located in Moses Hall (Room 302).

The room is currently being redesigned and refurnished (see images of the plans at below). The room features a shelf of books selected by Barry Stroud before his death. The books are ones that influenced his work in philosophy, taken from his personal library.

This is a tour of the current state of the room as of 2 November 2019. An updated video will be posted when the room is finished.

The Philosophy Department welcomes donations to help fund the renovation of The Stroud Room into a space for small seminars and discussion sections. Donors will be acknowledged by a framed list or plaque in The Stroud Room. To donate, please:

  • Visit: https://give.berkeley.edu/browse/?u=213

  • Under “4. Additional details about my support…” please check “I am giving in memory of someone.”

  • In the text box that appears, please type “Barry Stroud.”

Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Should total donations exceed the roughly $50,000 estimated for the project, they will go to the Philosophy Department’s annual fund, about which you can learn more here: https://philosophy.berkeley.edu/page/Giving.
